Mind the Gap
Mind the Gap is an album collecting over an hour of tunes, featuring compositions from 1997 all the way through 2010, just before the start of my hiatus from music. These run the style gamut from orchestral to electronic sounds, mostly made in Impulse Tracker with two of the tracks using other software.
All these tracks are released under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license.

War of One
This track is a sort of sequel to the original “Dream of One”. Accordingly, it uses only one channel of sound, and one very short looping “chip” sample. | OGG MP3 |
Aerodynamic
In my early days, I dabbled in MIDI-based composition. This is one of my most enthusiastic results! | OGG MP3 |
Errant Cog
This track was originally composed for the title and menu screen of the Game Boy Advance homebrew 2004Mbit Competition game collection. | OGG MP3 |
Anguna ~ Battle Come Morning
This piece was written for the homebrew RPG titled Anguna: Warriors of Virtue on the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance. The in-game music was modified and expanded by another musician. | OGG MP3 |
Anguna ~ Argument of Kings
This is the second Anguna piece, which appears as heard here. | OGG MP3 |
Winter Coat
Inspired by snow falling on a quiet night. Originally composed for Anguna but does not appear in the game. | OGG MP3 |
DeeJay ~ Tutorial
DeeJay was a GBA homebrew game that didn’t quite make it off the ground, though it served to lay the groundwork for the music in Space Gems. | OGG MP3 |
DeeJay ~ Level 1
Each level track in “DeeJay” relied on a rudimentary dynamic music engine that started and stopped individual channels depending on what was happening in the game. | OGG MP3 |
DeeJay ~ Level 2
These tracks are mostly true to that music engine, arranged as one might hear in the game (if it existed). | OGG MP3 |
Ellipsis
This piece is written for a horn quartet, though only one horn sample is used throughout. | OGG MP3 |
Vict’ry of the Mad Scientist
Composed in Famitracker, this track could play back on actual NES hardware – that is, a Nintendo Famicom with a cartridge containing the Konami VRC6 sound expansion chip that never appeared outside Japan. | OGG MP3 |
TEMP5
This track is perhaps a little too active to settle into a proper title, so its placeholder filename stepped up. | OGG MP3 |
Battalion: Head 2 Head suite
The online Flash game Battalion: Head 2 Head, re-released as Battalion: Freedom, featured most of the tracks in this suite. | OGG MP3 |
Jetlag
Ever been short on sleep in a different time zone? | OGG MP3 |
Call Her and Find
Lost and found. A little experimental. | OGG MP3 |
Renewal
I was commissioned to compose this piece as a wedding gift. In fact, it was played at the wedding! | OGG MP3 |
Palette Shift
Sometimes, things change in ways that leave them recognizable yet out of reach. | OGG MP3 |
Battlemachy suite
The first track and the last three tracks in this suite appeared in the online Flash action game Battlemachy: Jade Bandit, which originally had a second playable character to whom the rest of the tracks belonged. | OGG MP3 |
Imitation of Eye
Sometimes a little random noodling turns into a complete, if strange, piece of music. | OGG MP3 |
Marginalia
This piece was created for a Game-Boy-Advance-based book reader that never completed development. | OGG MP3 |
Space Gems ~ Hard
This is the homebrew GBA game that inherited the dynamic music concept from DeeJay. It featured in the same 2004Mbit Competition cartridge as “Errant Cog”. | OGG MP3 |
Space Gems ~ Normal
In the final game, the tracks simply added a layer of sound for each of five rounds. These mixes are somewhat more dynamic. | OGG MP3 |
Space Gems ~ Jingles
These are the non-dynamic tracks for the game, including the title, win, loss, all stages clear, and high score music. | OGG MP3 |
The Only Time (I’m Real (Is When I’m Not))
This piece was composed for a competition which limited participants to using only the provided piano instrument, though some sample manipulation was permitted. | OGG MP3 |
She’s Got a Brand New NES
Having been created in Impulse Tracker, this isn’t quite authentic NES sound though it fits the same hardware limits. | OGG MP3 |
Last Glance
It’s not forever, even when it feels like it might be. | OGG MP3 |
